Our History
Founded in 2013 by a diverse group of community organizers, Future of Us (formerly Asian American Organizing Project) began as a movement to mobilize the Asian American community through civic engagement, most notably through its Get Out the Vote efforts in 2014 and 2015. During this time, the organization laid the foundation for a stronger, more connected community voice at the polls.
In December 2015, Future of Us restructured and embraced a broader vision under the leadership of Linda Lelis-Her, who stepped in as Executive Director. This marked a pivotal moment in our journey, expanding our focus beyond voting to include deeper community organizing, youth leadership, and systems change work.
In spring 2025, Future of Us proudly reintroduced itself with a name that reflects our collective power, our intergenerational movement, and our belief that the future is something we shape together. While our name has changed, our commitment to building a just, joyful future remains unwavering.
